         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Encourage them to sit where they can see the teacher speak, but respect their choices if they make a different seating choice.</li><li>Make sure information that is presented is visual.</li><li>Don't talk when your back is turned to the class.</li><li>Try to keep the room well lit if the student needs to see the speaker.</li><li>When showing a video, try to use captioning.</li><li>Employ the use of any assistive devices.</li><li>Minimize background noise</li><li>Provide pre-written notes for presented information.</li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>According to IDEAL a visual impairment is "any visual condition that impacts an individuals ability to  successfully complete the activities of everyday life,... or impact their ability to learn."<br>There are 2 classification systems used primarily for students:<br>1. Low Vision, functionally blind, totally blind.<br>2. based on the advent of the visual impairment; either congenital, or occurs after having normal vision through hereditary trait or trauma.<br> A specially trained educator along with the IEP team will determine appropriate accommodations for the student.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>According to IDEAL, approximately <em>80% of what children learn is through visual cues.</em> The American  Academy of Pediatrics recommends children getting regular eye examinations.</div><ul><li><strong>Physical Signs</strong>: Crossed eyes, or similar such as eyes that turn out.</li><li><strong>Clumsiness</strong>: Can occur due to misjudging distance or other positioning. Also, they may not walk correctly due to poor vision.</li><li><strong>Behavior:</strong> May appear to have a short attention span, or squint.</li><li><strong>Poor eye to hand coordination</strong></li><li><strong>Poor Academic performance: </strong>May see double vision or blurry vision.</li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>As stated earlier, a specialized educator, along with the IEP team will determine accommodations however there are some basic things we can do.</div><ul><li>Encourage independence and keep the room well organized.</li><li>Keep it consistent.</li><li>Help the student determine when to advocate for help.</li><li>Plan lessons in advance so that material can be adapted for the student.</li><li>Use verbal cues</li><li>Use assistive technology such as text to speech, braille, magnifiers, and other technology.</li><li>Consult the American Council for the Blind: Web: <a href="http://www.acb.org/">www.acb.org</a></li></ul>]]></description>
