within the 1st lesson students were asked to bring paper with them so they would be ready to experiment with the paper, while folding and interacting with the paper we were asked to think about questions such as What the material is capable of? and How the material interacts with you, with other materials.
these questions were used to try and get us to think outside the box and the different ways paper can be utilised within the early childhood classroom other then the everyday implementation such as cutting and drawing.

Reflection
through doing this activity it has made me really think about the different everyday materials in this case paper, something that is a everyday use within the early childhood setting but most of the time is not thought to be anything but a tool for the children to draw on and cut. this activity has asked questions that has forced me to think outside the box and theorise different uses and application that paper can offer in order to create different experiences for the children with hope to aid in their learning and development.

Community visit

session 2 was the community visit this was probably the most important activity for me as it was the basis of both my 1st and 2nd assessment's, going of this walk with the intention of looking for art around the community was a much different experience I normally have, as I have passed through this walkway many times but never really payed much attention to the paintings other then thinking "they nice paintings" and then going about my day. the activity allowed me to stop and really appreciate both the designs of the painting of the posts and the photos that are on the chair and prompted me to research the local indigenous people when I returned home, having the student ask questions and want to inquire or understand more about what is happening should always be a goal when teaching, wanting the child to be interested enough in what they are learning that they want to better understand it and ask questions about it can create discussion within the class and group discussion and collaboration is one of the most useful ways of learning as i always found that collaboration was better for my learning at school because all students brought their different amounts of knowledge and taught eachother resulting in a very effective learning experience.

Reflection
through the task of going of the community walk and finding local pieces of art i have asked many questions about the indigenous painting and pictures that I have found and conducted my own research into them, i based my 2nd assessment around these pieces of art as well as my Claymation was of indigenous dreamtime with my incorporating aspects of the painting and pictures that i witnessed during my walk, this type of learning when the student inquires about what they have seen and conducts their own learning based on the questions that arise is invaluable and has shaped my pedagogy with the aim to make my students ask questions about what they have learnt.

Material inquiry 2- Junk

"In general I believe schools do not attach importance to the aesthetic dimension in learning because they consider it to be a pleasurable aspect but fundamentally superfluous, not strictly necessary"(Lella Gandini, et al., Teachers College Press, 2015).

coming in to this inquiry I was a lot more prepared then many of my peers and the Centre that I did all of my placements at was a Reggio Emilia based Centre and strongly believed in the 'junk' and 'loose parts' concepts within the teaching, before going to placement we had learnt about what the loose parts play was but I had never really seen it in action, throughout my placement I witnessed the concept behind it being put into action and how teachers go about implementing it.

during week 2 while learning about junk and the different implementations that can be done with everyday objects that normally aren't given a second thought when it comes to early childhood education i purposely look at the recycling containers and boxes that were stacked up and thought of different activities that can be planned around these objects that would be beneficial in a early childhood setting. For example for empty milk cartoons I thought of uses for their lids in collages then if cut open they could be used as paint holders as a alternative.

Reflection
throughout week 2 the main focus was of the inquiry about junk and really understanding the concept behind the Reggio Emelia approach and the different application that spare parts can have within the early childhood setting, like the previous inquiry about paper this made us ask questions about the different materials and experiment with them to better understand that material and the what it is capable of in a teaching sense, this unit focuses on making us ask questions and learn to utilise different materials and think outside the box when it becomes time for us to put our pedagogy into action and become teachers.

Material inquiry 3- Clay

for week 3 our material inquiry was clay this also directly related to our 2nd assessment which required us to use the clay that was sent to us to create a 10-15 second Claymation video, I had done this assessment before but using cheap dollar store clay and immediately after playing with the clay i realised how the quality and how much easier this clay allowed for creating object and making them sturdy. this week was mostly dedicated to getting to understand clay and how to create a stop motion presentation with this material, i found myself playing with the clay and just really enjoying the feel that it has while squeezing it without the intention of creating anything out of it, this is the first real time that I have played with something like this a reminded me a lot of using playdoh as a child. incorporating clay or playdoh like materials into an early childhood setting will offer children an amazing experience not only because how fun it is to use and make things with but will also stimulate questions within them that will allow the teacher to further teach them. due to the excitement and engagement that they clay will create among the children having them do activities such as making letters will be something that they may enjoy doing even if they don't enjoy drawing them, because of the factor of the clay and how foreign or fun it may be to use it will create a new level of intrigue and excitement within the children offering different ways to teach children the same things but with increased engagement.

Material inquiry 4- Light

during session 10 we inquired about the material of light, the first thing that came to mind when thinking about the interactions that light has within the early childhood setting i thought about an activity that I set up that included a projector and the children would place objects on the light up surface and they would make big shadows on the walls and they would create their own games with the shadows and experiment of ways to make the shadows bigger or smaller.
The photo that I am using is just a simple image that i took at my placement of a shadow that shows the light interacting with a tree, things like this are very simple to older people like us but to children that are still 3-4 years old these interactions that light has on thing can be mysterious and magical.

Reflection
light is something that as an adult is something that we all know about but as a child is something that is being interacted with on a daily basis and often not though about for example the shadow the shade cloth makes and that children no to stay under it if they don't have a hat and they don't need to look up to see were it end they can tell because of where the shadow stops and the light begins.
it is something that can be simple to implement into play like only stepping and jumping on the shadows and avoiding the light.
