One way that we foster this school and community relationship is with our school resource officers. .

They provide plenty of resources to our students and parents.

They are in tune with what is going on in the community and what students or families might need help. This allows the school to reach out and make sure all of our students needs are met.

They are a great resource for our families with troubled teens because they can provide plenty of resources to them and also explain to them how to access different resources.

It also goes back to creating relationships with officers so they are just not viewed as "cops" they are resources which helps when students are not in school they have a better comfort level with our town police and are willing to listen which helps keep the issues in our community down.

You must always remember that you are a professional and a teacher.

No matter what parents ask you or tell you, you have certain ethical responsibilities that you must abide by at all times.

Confidentiality and responsibility are first and foremost and you must make this clear to parents from the start.

You can explain that you want to work as a team and help their child but be clear with what the expectations are and how you will stick with the plan.

The plan/goals needs to be a joint effort with the parent, student and teacher that outlines guidelines for success.
