Indian boy child soldiers aged from six to twelve are used as spies and they are trained in basic drills and they are armed with rifles. Young girls participate in the same drills as boys and they are trained to lead operations from the front. Indian boy child soldiers aged above twelve are used as fighters. They are trained to make and plant land mines and bombs.

Once the child soldiers are caught they are abused and once they are released they are bullied by other people who haven’t experienced what they have experienced and they are mentally injured from their experience of being a child soldier.

HOW MANY?
It is unclear how many child soldiers there are, but it is estimated to be in the tens of thousands, if not in the hundred thousands.

 

WHY?
Children are vulnerable, cheap and easily manipulated. In addition, states that still allow child recruitment tend to be larger and wealthier than average, and they spend more on their military.

 

The UN and Child Soldiers International is looking to set a strict Straight-18 standard. For example, Australia, China, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia and the USA allow enlistment from age 17. Brazil, Canada, and the UK are among the small handful of countries that set the bar even lower, at age 16.
