Lagu Negaraku was adopted as Malaysia's national anthem and was played for the first time after 12 midnight on 31 August 1957 at Padang Kelab Selangor. Starting from that moment, the song Negaraku continues to be the official song of the country.

“Negaraku” emphasises loyalty and unity for national progress. This song serves to raise patriotism and love for the homeland. The idea to create the national anthem arose when the country was then preparing to celebrate its Independence Day.
