Flip Book

Artist: Crystal Gray
Title: Aviators
Artist Statement: To walk you through the process of my flip book, I created this artwork by FIRST choosing a subject that I felt comfortable with. In this case, it’s a funny looking aviator dude; this is my signature image (weird like me). I took this illustration (drawing) and uploaded it into my Photoshop program, to edit and manipulate this image in order to create a flip book. To do so, I played around with filters and altered colors; all while saving and renaming EACH variation (page) as a new document. Once I had a BUNCH (about 40) different variations of the image, I printed them out and put my variations (pages) together using found materials. My flip book was constructed with cardboard, paper, string, fabric and I used my drill gun (safely) to make holes in the cardboard and stack of paper. When flipping through this self-made book, you’ll see a floating head that spins around, blows up and then gets sucked back into space, all while the artwork varies from all colors of the rainbow.
