1.“The DPIC report says there is a strong geographical concentration in the use of the death penalty.” In fact, 21 out of the 23 executions that happened last year (2017) were in southern states. Only 8 states performed executions, and 7 of them are in the south. So why do you think the southern states were the last to abolish slavery and now are also the last to continue using the death penalty?

1. "Death sentences and executions have been declining steadily since the mid-1990s." How can you say the were steadily declining since the mid-1990's when the highest execution year was 1999?
2. "Gibson says that for the past six years lawmakers have had to tweak the state's death penalty statute to keep it constitutional." How do you make a law about execution constitutional?

The text states "Mississippi is one of several states that are moving to permit "old-school execution methods," as Debbie puts it — like firing squads, gas chambers and the electric chair — to get around restrictions on lethal injection drugs." How is the death penalty unequal?

"Mississippi is one of several states that are moving to permit "old-school execution methods," as Debbie puts it — like firing squads, gas chambers and the electric chair — to get around restrictions on lethal injection drugs." I dont disagree with death penalties because I feel like some cases it is actually something to consider. But Mississippi is just going to far trying to consider other ways of execution like the electric chair, gas chambers... are we trying to goback to the holocaust?

1. " If the death penalty is being used by only a small number of states, and if there is a clear national trend away from capital punishment, the Supreme Court could find that it has become a cruel and unusual punishment under the Eighth Amendment." Do you think that in all cases, the death penalty is cruel punishment?
