Why is this time period significant?

The Holocaust was significant because it was during WWII and Hitler and his army were trying to exterminate and murder all of the Jews. The Jewish people were forced to wear the Star of David and were forced to do many things that other races in Germany didn’t have to do. The Jews were forced to have different laws that were more strict than other laws that the other people had. At one point, every Jew was forced to give up his/her driver's license and had to walk to every place they went. Soon enough, many people including every Jew was forced to move into the Ghettos and work hard, long days at brutal jobs and separate all Jews from the other populations. People were sent to concentration camps in Cattle Cars where most were separated from their families and would never get to see their loved ones again in their life.

What was going on during this time period?

During this time period, WWII was going on and people in Germany just wanted the war to be over. On top of the war, Dictator Adolf Hitler and his army were attacking other nations and making discriminating Jews. Hitler started to discriminate Jews from other races in the country. Hitler put all Jews on strict rules, curfews, and made each Jew wear a yellow Star of David. Also, before the Holocaust, Germany was in major debt from a previous war, in which they had to pay for all of the damage they had done to other nations and signed the “Treaty of Versailles”. They started to make more and more paper money but soon money began to be useless as they tried to get more money by raising taxes of the people, in which basically backfired.

How does the experience of the Holocaust change my understanding of the human capacity to commit premeditated atrocities?

The experience of the Holocaust has changed my understanding of the human capacity to commit premeditated atrocities because during the Holocaust over 6 million Jews were killed and it kind of became an “ethnic cleansing” of the Jews. Over half of the Jews were killed but others just barely survived. The Jews and others that might have criticized the Nazi’s were sent to concentration camps that were also called “Death Camps” and were forced to do hard and tiring labor. In my opinion, just because a certain race may be inferior to the society, country, or government it doesn’t mean you should just go and kill most of a certain race like Hitler and the Nazi’s did to the Jews. He sent them to camps and made them work. He also went and put Jews in gas chambers that was filled with a very poisonous gas that killed a lot of them in less than 15 minutes. In the chamber, you would be put in a room with other people and after a few minutes you would start to feel like you were suffocating.

Conclusion

After this project, I can conclude that the Holocaust was a very important and terrifying time period and Dictator Adolf Hitler was very cruel to the Jewish population. From my research, I saw that around 1934 Adolf Hitler and the Nazi's start to discriminate Jews from the many other races in Germany. Around 1940, Hitler and the Nazi's started to capture over 1/2 of the Jews and sent them to the Ghettos, where they wanted to separate the Jews from other people and create different laws for them to follow. Later on, Jews were sent off in "Cattle Cars" to concentration camps and were separated from their families. When they reached concentration camps, people did hard labor and were put in gas chambers where many were killed.
