Scottish Heritage Careers Week is a national, cross-sector week of activity to raise awareness of careers in the historic environment sector and tackle misconceptions. There are three key aims of Heritage Careers Week.

Although this week is packed full of engagement activity, with days of focused activity and a social media campaign, the week can also be a platform for even more school engagement with the Heritage Sector further down the line.

Educators, Parents and Carers

If you are an educator, career influencer, parent or carer, this Padlet has a variety of resources for you. If you are interested in discovering activity taking place during Heritage Careers Week this year, the sections "Heritage Careers Week Events (online)" and "Upcoming In-Person Events" both of which are open to all. If you want resources you can use all year round to encourage conversations about careers in the heritage sector, a variety of pathways or the historic environment in general, we have a variety of those available in our Heritage Careers Resources section. This includes a couple of toolkits with free online activities and recordings of previous online Heritage Careers Week events and panels.

The Employers Toolkit for Scottish Heritage Careers Week is a practical guide designed to help heritage organisations interact with young people and promote careers in the heritage sector. It provides a range of resources, including suggested activities, social media templates, and guidance on hosting events or workplace visits.

Heritage Careers week online is a national online programme that connects Scottish students (P4–S6) with industry professionals through live, interactive sessions. Delivered via e-Sgoil, it helps develop career awareness and employability skills through webinars, themed events, and certificated courses and it is designed to enhance classroom learning.

Educators Toolkit

The Educators’ Toolkit for Scottish Heritage Careers Week contains loads of different resources to inform and give young people a good understanding about roles in the heritage sector and to also help teachers introduce students to careers in heritage and help to inspire them to purse a career in it.

You can find out about different roles including traditional roles in the heritage sector as well as those hidden roles that you perhaps haven't considered before.

The Work of Archives

Pupils will then use what they have learnt to match skill sets to job titles, to think about the part each role plays in saving the stories of the people that have come before us, and to consider some of the best things and some of the challenges about working in an archive
