"'Your mother should have taken you to that witch doctor the day you got burned,’ Dad said, ‘not to these heads up their asses med school quacks.'"

This guy running out of a hospital is like when Jeanette got checked out, Rex Walls-style. Rex hates the government and will do anything to avoid them, like taking Lori to a witch doctor because he doesn't trust the quacks from the hospital at all, or breaking Jeanette out from the hospital to 'save' her.

This image of a woman painting reflects Rose Mary's role in the family. This relates to the theme of Fantasy vs Reality, since Rose Mary has always been delusional about her success as an artist. She refuses to take jobs to help out her kids because she believes it would be more wise to paint pictures all day.

"'Have I ever let you down?' he asked Brian and me and then turned and walked away. In a voice so low that Dad didn't hear him, Brian said. 'Yes.'"

The angry drunk in this picture reflects Rex's role in the family. This relates to the theme of Chaos and Order, as Rex is more of a detriment to the family since he wastes all his money on alcohol instead of his family. The kids usually have to take care of themselves as well, since Rex and Rose Mary don't do much useful things.

This picture of a woman digging through the garbage is like when Rose Mary was digging up garbage at the start of the book. This relates to the theme of identity because Jeanette humanizes homeless people since they could be someone who chose that life, much like her parents.

The pit of garbage is reflective of the Glass Castle's future. This relates to the theme of broken promises since Rex promised he would start building the Glass Castle in Welch. When Jeanette and Brian dug up a foundation for it, it became the trash dump instead.
