I incorporated many key skills into my teaching during my 8 week placement. They're also something I incorporate into my violin classes too. These skills are an integral part to creating a healthy, productive and enjoyable classroom.
In relation to staying well, I am clear with instructions for students and give plenty of positive feedback. I aim to build confidence and encourage inquiry.
In many topics covered during the 8 weeks, I made use of group work. Mixing students with their friends and also people they don't necessarily get along with. This brought in key skills such as working with others and communicating.
I felt that the level of literacy and numeracy were not satisfactory, so I conducted research projects on different topics the students found interesting so they would engage with the research. Each group had to model an aspect of their project which brought in key skill being creative. I also emphasised the importance of the maths we needed to do within science. Giving prizes for the students that got the correct answers. This also incorporated the final two key skills of managing myself and managing information and thinking.
