A "canon" can be defined as a well-known musical piece usually written by a popular composer, and usually written a very long time ago. Although canons are almost always appreciated in today's time, often, they were not very much appreciated when they were first composed. In Western Art music, also known as "Classical music", canons occur quite often. In my opinion, a perfect example of canons in Classical music is "The Nutcracker". The music in The NutCracker contains many beautiful musical pieces that are extremely well-known. When listening to the classical radio station, I found that almost every song I heard, included either a lot of piano, or a lot of orchestra type instruments such as the flute and the violin. Some of the composers I heard included, Bach, Chopin, and Bantock. Many of the songs also sounded extremely alike, using similar musical patterns and instrumentals.
