The seventh man has had a traumatizing past and has been banished (by himself) from his childhood town. This suggests that he is the “outcast” in his own backstory, not a hero like most stories. The writer's choice in archetype gives us insight on how the narrator feels about himself. The seventh man feels he can not be the hero because he did not save K, so he made himself the outcast in his own life to deal with his regret.
