He would usually do his testing on people with bipolar and anxiety disorders. The testing that he did on these people made them worse off leaving them scarred. During the years he did his testing, he did something called electroconvulsive therapy, which is a procedure supposed to be done under a general anesthesia that pushes small electric currents through the patient's brain causing a seizure. Dr. Donald Ewen Cameron pushed these electrolytes at 30-40 times the regular amount which is quite dangerous. Another experiment he did during his years of testing was play simple statements and repetitive noises over and over again after putting them in comas. He was known to perform vivisection, which is the act of surgery on humans or animals that are awake under no anesthesia, doing most of his testing on prisoners. He was giving surgery to people who didn't need it by opening them up to examine their insides for science. Ishii didn't consider his subjects humans and referred to them as logs. While performing these surgeries on pregnant women he would make them abort their babies because it just got in the way. In addition to performing unnecessary surgery, he would give people heart attacks and hypothermia on purpose. When the war was over, Ishii was arrested for these violent acts but the U.S made a deal with him. Douglas McArthur told him if the U.S basically made Ishii exempt from these crimes he committed, the U.S would get all of his research he built up over his years of testing. U.S people and doctors wanted to test this and make sure that the penicillin worked so they would infect prostitutes in Guatemala and send them to prisons or insane asylums to try to infect those people in prison or insane asylums and the U.S could use the penicillin on them and see if it worked. This way of trying to infect people didn't work that well and so they went right to infecting that one person. These harmful chemicals such as mustard gas and lewisite (dark and oily liquid harming the skin and lungs) were sprayed on soldiers without them even knowing this was happening to them causing them excruciating pain, burning of the skin and itchiness. Not only did they want to learn about these chemicals, but also about the equipment that soldiers would need to use if there were harmful chemicals in the area. It's crazy to think about how people would harm another person(s) just to get some more research on a topic we don't have much information about. I think it was very wrong what the U.S did to all of these people.
