The Sustainable Development Goal 8 is about "Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all" and is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals which were established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015.

This SDG tackles the problem of unemployment and business related problems such as "the Collapse Of Leisure Businesses Due To Unemployment In Mindanao."

Philippines Unemployment Rate: Region X: Northern Mindanao data was reported at 5.2% in Jul 2018.  The data reached an all-time high of 7.400 % in Jan 2005 and a record low of 3.000 % in Jan 2018. Poverty incidence in Mindanao is 36.2%, higher than the national average of 21.6%, 13.1% in Luzon, and 28.2% in Visayas. The largest share of the country's poor population comes from Mindanao, contributing 40.4%, followed by Luzon (34.3%) and Visayas (25.3%).

The pandemic has greatly affected most businesses in the globe especially, small and medium enterprises. This led to the downfall of most leisure businesses. Quarantine restrictions imposed by the government reduced customers and profits of businesses, especially the food, travel, adventure, and entertainment industry. In Mindanao, Philippines, many establishments have closed due to a lack of profits caused by the strict quarantine restrictions. Though all sectors of industries in Mindanao are affected, restaurants, malls, and small food stores suffered the most.

Unemployment brings several challenges not just to an individual but to society as a whole. Each unemployed person faces several challenges that affect their financial and mental state as well as their prospects. Higher unemployment rates often lead to rampant poverty, which in turn hampers the development of the community and society as a whole as the people of this community have limited opportunities and can afford lesser services and even necessities.

The government has already implemented a fiscal policy that intends to decrease unemployment by helping to increase aggregate demand and the rate of economic growth. Loans that are dedicated to small and medium businesses are also already being planned. These types of loans would help small businesses by having low-interest rates and would cater primarily to them. As ordinary citizens of this country, we can help address this issue by spreading awareness and information about it; as many people are still blind to this problem and are not aware of its true magnitude.
