         <description><![CDATA[<div>I saw the article on the website of National geographic, and it was interesting and shocking to me to imagine a bat capable of migrating over 1500 miles. I chose this article because I want to share this amazing fact and to explore more on how animal migrations are impacted by human and what we could do to contribute to environmental stability.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Scientists observed a bat weighing only a quarter of an ounce that migrated from Boruk to Lully, and the distance of over 1500 miles broke the record of the migration distance of the Nathusius’ pipistrelle bat, which has a previous record of 1381 miles from Latvia to Spain in 2017.&nbsp; (Peterson)&nbsp;<br>Similar to the observed 2017 migration, the 2022 one was also over a long distance across Europe in the same direction, showing that this population of bats now has the migration pattern of long-distance across Europe.&nbsp;<br>The two scientists Desmet and Alcade, who recorded the two migrations both believe that the bats travel even longer than recorded because the armbands of the bats are not equipped with GPS locators, probably over 1900 miles.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>It was hard for scientists like Vasenkov to believe that the Nathusius’ pipistrelles bats travel a distance this long even though the Nathusius’ pipistrelles bats are now known for their common long distance migrations.&nbsp; (Weathersby)&nbsp;<br>The reason for the long distance migrations is the breeding and hibernating habits of the Nathusius’ pipistrelles bats. They breed and raise young bats in northeastern Europe during summers, and because they have the habit of hibernating outside in buildings and trees, they have to migrate further southwest to places with warmer climates than other species of bats.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Although the population of Nathusius’ pipistrelle is relatively stable in Europe, Nathusius’ pipistrelle bats are often found dead near wind farms. (Alcalde)<br>The wind turbines that can generate energy for humans are sometimes deadly for bats, and many of the bats migrating southwest die from crashing into the blades because the air pressure changes suddenly near wind turbine blades.<br>The use of wind power is relatively new and growing very fast in Europe because it is a sustainable and renewable energy source that has a smaller environmental impact than burning fossil fuels, so scientists expected a decreased migrating bat population in the future.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Although wind energy is renewable energy, humans need to think about its potential threat to migrating flying animals like bats. With more and more knowledge of bats' migrating patterns, humans can reduce fatalities by changing the operating schedules of wind turbines when bats are migrating.<br>Other solutions to this problem include choosing safer locations to build wind turbines with more detailed records of bats' migration routes and changing the color of the wind turbines to prevent bats from flying near them.</div>]]></description>
