The Wheat Belly Diet

The Wheat Belly Diet consists of not consuming gluten and avoiding large amounts of carbohydrates such as sugar. This diet is not as much of a "quick fix" like many of the other diets, it is more of a permanent lifestyle as many people maintain this diet for their whole entire lives. This diet is healthy for teenagers as the dieter is basically conforming to the eating habits of people with celiac disease. People with celiac disease can maintain healthy diets. It is possible to conform to all sections of the food guide as there are many gluten-free grain products such as gluten-free oats.

"True, wheat is found in many different foods, not just bread, cereals, pasta and baked goods. But I don't buy his contention that wheat and the proliferation of products containing wheat are largely to blame for the obesity epidemic. The real driver is increased consumption of high-glycemic-load carbohydrates, mainly sugars and flours of all types, not just wheat. Many people today take in more calories (from all types of food, much of it low quality) than people in the recent past, and this excess hasn't been balanced by an increase in physical activity."
-Dr. Andrew Weil
