She talks with him on how they both have lost everything, but when she learns he is unable to speak she has a single request.
"Please marry me."
Oscar's grandfather says he felt un-easy about the situation, with the chapter ending in,
"Help."
- Eric Hrelec Period 4

The narrator talk about how his silence went from no silence at all to completely silent as he loses words overtime. Also, he tells us how losing these words affected his life more and more as time passed by. Then he was always silent and wrote stuff on his hands to speak without actually speaking. Then he tells us about this girl he met in a coffee shop and how she wants him to marry her. He ends the conversation by writing down "help". This might be a sign that he does want to marry this girl.

" I wasn't even a little bit panicky, b/c mom and dad worked in midtown, and grandma didn't work, so everyone i loved was safe." You can tell family is very important to him and hes glad to know that they are safe. " I thought about my small victories and everything i'd seen destroyed, i'd swum thru mink coats on my parents' bed while they hosted downstairs....'' I'd lost the only person i could have spent my only life with'' This shows he really thinks about his life in depth and he still misses his dad the main person he loved, grandpa is talking in this part of the book.
