Many people began to get sick and the government knew this was a serious problem. The Chinese government banned opium and stopped the trade.  Britain couldn´t import the opium tea to China anymore. But British east india had a different plan, they hired British and American traders to bring opium to China. British East India lowered the prices of the opium so that the chinese would purchase more of the opium. These traders began to break many laws which lead to a bigger issue. The addiction to opium began to increase.
