         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the late 1700s the british merchants found out that they could make a huge profit by trading the opium that was grown in India for chinese tea. China´s government banned opium to stop the trade but the british rejected. In 1839 the war began britain had the newest/better equipment and the Chinese had outdated weapons which caused them to lose. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Opium war is important and it was the West´s way of free trade. Great Britain worked on the trade operation which helped import and export natural resources to different countries. But Britain tried to replace one of there natural resources with Opium. Britain´s plan worked and China had to trade with silver. The war began after realizing that Britain´s plan wasn´t  fair. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Opium was used from the sap of a poppy plant.&nbsp;This poppy plant was also used for medical use earlier on, after British colonized many parts of India they began to plant more and more poppy plants. Having more poppy plants helped Britain because they made a huge profit from the opium tea they made. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Opium became very addicting which was Britain´s plan. Britain had a plan and it worked they wanted to trade this opium for resources from different countries. Even though Britain became successful it was bad for the other people that became addicted to the tea. After people tried to stop drinking the tea they began to get sick or maybe even die. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I chose this topic because it was something that I was interested in and something that I wanted to learn more about. When I began to research more it wasn´t just about the trade and how it was important. There was so much more to learn about including the story behind it and how it was used in the beginning to now.  I liked learning about their plans and ideas and how it helped the British and how it affected other. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Chinese government banned opium after they began to notice the effect. Many people began to get sick and the government knew this was a serious problem. The Chinese government banned opium and stopped the trade.&nbsp; Britain couldn´t import the opium tea to China anymore. But British east india had a different plan, they hired British and American traders to bring opium to China.&nbsp;British East India lowered the prices of the opium so that the chinese would purchase more of the opium. These traders began to break many laws which lead to a bigger issue. The addiction to opium began to increase. This caused more and more people to become addicted to the opium tea.</div>]]></description>
