Our department is promoting languages to increase the motivation and achievement of

our students. Some things we have done are; MFL parties, Spanish meals to La Tasca, competitions, Disney song singing. In the near future we are planning more meals out, French/Spanish film watching, LFC education centre visit, businesses to talk to our students about the importance of languages and also linking LFC 'Sweeper Zone and languages

So far, during this academic year we have been promoting languages through a trip to La Tasca, for our Year 11 pupils to use some of the vocabulary they have learned on the subject of food, as well as practicing their pronunciation and general conversational skills. We have also held small 'Spanish Parties' with different year groups, involving Spanish music, food and quizzes, to give the students a taste of the Spanish culture.

The department have been working together in order to promote languages in the hope of increasing student motivation and enthusiasm for language learning. So far this year Year 11 students have taken part in a trip to La Tasca where they were able to benefit from the authentic Spanish dining experience. Across the year groups teachers have also organised a number of Spanish parties where by students were able to take part in numerous Spanish quizzes, dress up in Spanish party wear and eat Spanish tapas,

Some things that will also take place soon are:

1) Spanglovision - Where each teacher is allocated a disney song that they must teach to their classes. At the end of the year each class will be videoed and their videos sent to a member of SLT. One class will be chosen for each teacher and these classes will compete against one another in a final. The class that wins in the final will win a prize.

2) Spelling bee - Year 7

3) Spanish/ french movie night - Students come to the refectory in the new build and will have access to food/drinks and a movie.

4) Spanish/ french bingo night

5) International careers day

6) Reducate with Liverpool Football Club

7) Trips abroad including work experience

8) Lanugages street

9) FACT - Foundation for Art and Creative Technology (foreign films)

10) Year 11 Keynote Spanish GCSE revision conference

We have lots planned in order to promote languages. Already we have had trips to La Tasca where students where able to practise their spanish and conversational skills. We have cinema trips planned with FACT a cinema where they show films in other languages. Further, there is the street which will help not only promote languages but will also help motivate and engage the students with languages outside the classroom. We further have song competitions in Spanish and french in order to create a fun and amicable environment whilst learning languages. Then lets not forget the trips which we are hoping to do in the future which will really help students not only in theri speaking and listening skills but will also give them a deeper insight into Spanish and French culture.

The way to promote languages is to teach a language as a vehicule of the culture. Hence, we teach students the culture of the target language country. Also, we will organise more food tasting, cooking sessions and trips to provide students with the opportunity to immerse in the culture of the target language country. The frequent use of the learning aids such as I pads, laptops, mini-theatre, puppets and ( in the near future, the street) will motivate students to be more confident to learn languages.
