Christmas is a great Christian holiday, the birthday of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, and the Redeemer of the people from the captivity of sin. The Feast of the Nativity of Christ is considered the second after Easter (Easter) a great holiday, although in many Catholic countries, national piety still gives him the main place among the holidays.

Christmas legend
The Feast of Christmas belongs to the great Christian, so-called Twenty Hundreds of holidays, and has five days before the celebration and six days after the celebration and ends with the holiday of the Circumcision of the Lord.

On this day there was a great event for the whole Christian world - the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem (Jesus translated from Hebrew means "salvation"). All Christians are convinced that Jesus Christ was sent by God on earth for the sake of redemption and the salvation of mankind. The Old Testament prophets predicted the place and time of the birth of the Savior of the world - 5508 from the creation of the world. So January 7 is the birthday of the Son of God on earth. From this day begins the countdown.

According to the teachings of the Gospel, the mother of Jesus Christ, Mary and her husband Joseph lived in Nazareth, and came to Bethlehem, following the order of the ruler of Augustus to appear to the entire population for the census. Because a lot of people gathered in the census of the Roman Empire, Maria and Joseph could not find a place to sleep, and therefore they had to seek refuge in a small cave where shepherds were usually hid in bad weather. There Mary also gave birth to the Son of God. Then the angel descended from heaven and told the shepherds who at that moment did not sleep, that God was born. The Chabans first came to worship the infant.

The Bethlehem star was shining on the sky, telling the world about the birth of the Savior and pointing the way to the King of all people. By shepherds to the cave with Mary and Jesus Christ came the pagan wise men and brought gifts to God: gold, frankincense and myrrh. Gold symbolized royal power, incense - God's will, and peacefully - the fate of the prophet. Incidentally, it is in those ancient times that the tradition of making a Bethlehem star and decorating with it a Christmas tree.

Having sent his Son to the ground, God the Father tried to show to mankind the importance of love, kindness, compassion and mutual understanding between people. The birthday of Jesus Christ is the most widely celebrated birthday in the world. People of different social strata, financial position, beliefs and views do not pass this holiday with their attention

Lune siciliane

The days that preceded the festivities were a comings and goings of women preparing the moons and other Christmas sweets, and the same happened at the grandparents' house where my mother and her aunts, busy with the preparation of sweets, allowed me to help and browse: I was always there, I handed the ingredients and watched as they kneaded the flour and mixed the various elements but especially when, with the tin or wooden shapes, created the sweets that, with their hands, agile and expert, were enriched with decorations.

Here is the recipe

Ingredients
Pasta: 1 kg. of flour 00, sugar g.400, 1 sachet baking powder, butter g. 250, 3 glasses of warm milk,

Seasoning: 1 kg of dried figs, 250 g. of toasted and chopped hazelnuts, 250 g. walnuts toasted and chopped and 250 g. of toasted and chopped almonds, 150 g. of crushed Bronte pistachios, a tablespoon of raisins, 200 g. grated orange peel 250 g. of sugar, 2 tablespoons of honey with orange and a glass of water and / or marsala.

Preparation :
Pasta: Mix the flour with the butter, at room temperature, and the baking powder. Dissolve the sugar in warm milk and pour slowly into the flour, then knead until a homogeneous and consistent mixture is obtained.

Stuffed :
Coarsely chopped the dried figs and pour them in a pot together with the hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds, pistachios of Bronte, minced (if you do not find Italian pistachios, rather do not put them) and the raisins; add the grated orange zest, sugar, honey and a glass of water. Stir and put on the stove, cook for about 15 minutes, turn, occasionally, to prevent it from sticking, then let it cool and keep in the fridge. (My mother prepared the mixture in the evening, leaving him in the balcony, all night, covered with pot, to make it cool and mix, as she said, "al sereno" that is the natural cold of winter).

The dressing is maintained even a week; know that you can keep a part in the freezer, for a few months, I do it, this will allow you to still prepare sweets at carnival.
Preparation
Turn on the oven and bring it to 180 ° and in the meantime roll out the dough with a rolling pin, on a floured surface, with a circular base (I use a cup for coffee) of the pasta discs: Place a spoon on the middle of the disc of filling and cover with the other half, then sealed well with the rabbi of the fork, forming a half moon and lay it on the pan. After preparing all the pastries, bake for about 20 minutes and before pulling them out of the oven, brush with the beaten egg that will make the golden sweets. When cooked, remove them, sprinkle with icing sugar and let them cool.
