Differentiate lesson based on students' familiarity with the content or level of current ability to access the standards: remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating.

Examples:

Match vocabulary words to definitions.
Read a passage of text and answer related questions.
Think of a situation that happened to a character in the story and a different outcome.
Differentiate fact from opinion in the story.
Identify an author’s position and provide evidence to support this viewpoint.
Create a PowerPoint presentation summarizing the lesson.

Process:
Differentiate lesson based on students' preferred learning style: visual, auditory and kinesthetic, and through words.

Examples:

Provide textbooks for visual and word learners.
Allow auditory learners to listen to audio books.
Give kinesthetic learners the opportunity to complete an interactive assignment online.

Product:
Differentiate what the student creates at the end of the lesson to demonstrate the mastery of the content.

Examples:

Read and write learners write a book report.
Visual learners create a graphic organizer of the story.
Auditory learners give an oral report.
Kinesthetic learners build a diorama illustrating the story.

Learning Environment:
Create classroom conditions for optimal learning-that include both physical and psychological elements.

Examples:

Break some students into reading groups to discuss the assignment.
Allow students to read individually if preferred.
Create quiet spaces where there are no distractions.
Create a flexible classroom by varying types of furniture or seating arrangements to support individual and group work.

"Self efficacy is commonly defined as the belief in one's capabilities to achieve a goal or an outcome. Students with a strong sense of efficacy are more likely to challenge themselves with difficult tasks and be intrinsically motivated. These students will put forth a high degree of effort in order to meet their commitments, and attribute failure to things which are in their control, rather than blaming external factors. Self-efficacious students also recover quickly from setbacks, and ultimately are likely to achieve their personal goals. Students with low self-efficacy, on the other hand, believe they cannot be successful and thus are less likely to make a concerted, extended effort and may consider challenging tasks as threats that are to be avoided. Thus, students with poor self-efficacy have low aspirations which may result in disappointing academic performances becoming part of a self-fulfilling feedback cycle."
