Video #1 Infants & Cognitive Development

1.Piaget observed the "hidden side" of a child's mind. An infants mind is much different than a adults, being it is not fully developed. Therefor the mind is not capable of fully understanding a concept yet.
2. Since infants couldn't talk he composed a nonverbal test to see how infants explore. Until the age of 6/7 months children don't know hidden objects continue to exist.
3. In the video Molly was interested with the keys she was playing with. She was using her senses sight, touch, hear and taste. She also couldn't understand when the keys were hidden underneath the blanket in front of her they weren't gone but simply hidden.

Video #2 Assimilation & Accommodation

1. Children use assimilation and accommodation, with playing being a form of assimilation. Such as imagining an object is something else, for example a rock being a turtle. Children use their minds and imaginations to create their own world.
2. An accommodation is sacrificing comfort for the demands of the real world. Such as work being an accommodation because that is something that helps our accommodations. In the video an example was "pulling yourself out of warm bed on a cold morning", not because you want to, but have to.
3. All human actions involve assimilation and accommodations. They are not a separate source because all human interactions involve both on daily from imagining and being creative for ourselves all the way to our unselfish needs.

Video # 3 The Four Major Stages of Mental Growth

1. The first two years of life make up the sensorimotor period. Which is when a child is concerned most with objects. The child is then in a world of grabbing, dropping, banging and tasting.
2. The second stage is the preoperational, from about 2 & 7 the child reconstructs their world at a symbolic level. An example in the video being kids playing with objects and having a name for them.
3. Children playing is important for their mental growth. Developing names for real objects helps the child's learning and socialization. The child then has a better grasp on situations and memorization.
