Named after Greek mythology's Muse of Epic Poetry, French startup company, Callyope, aims to improve outcomes for hundreds of thousands of people living with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This ground breaking remote monitoring platform aims to bridge a gap between mental health providers and their patients by evaluating the patient's voice and identifying those that are in need of proper evaluation. Per the Callyope website, the purpose of this technology is to facilitate a prompt response to those who may be in a mental health crisis, and can be invaluable in decreasing the severity of mental health relapses and poor outcomes. Callyope strives to accomplish this with a simple, one minute voice recording to evaluate fatigue and cognition deficits.

Potential for faster identification of deteriorating mental health. As TechCrunch author, A. Dillet, pointed out, often the patients themselves often have difficulty with their own perception of symptoms until their symptoms becomes severe. Callyope offers an extra level of support and analysis separate from the user themself.

Easy to use technology that is available via numerous different avenues makes future accessibility a breeze! In an interview with TechCrunch, cofounder and CEO, Martin Denais, identified Callyope's ultimate goal is to create user friendly application that is available to users in all types of settings. In one example, Callyope could be used via a patient's cellular device where its evaluation, or report of the patient's mental health state, would then be sent to their psychiatrist electronically. In another instance, Callyope could be used to analyze and evaluate a patient's mental state via a recorded phone interview between a provider and a patient.

Broadening the use of this technology can benefit numerous types of mental health diagnoses. At this moment, Callyope's focus is aimed towards those managing schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. However, in the future, Callyope plans to broaden the use of its technology to help those dealing with depression and other mental health illnesses (Dillet, 2023).

There is much research and development left to be done. Callyope is a startup company, and as such, their innovative program will take time to fully develop. Per their CEO, Martin Denais, the team is actively working to research and design the technology to be as accurate and thorough, as possible. Callyope then would be subjected to thorough evaluation and approval by "health authorities" to obtain certification (Dillet, 2023).

Security Concerns. In the ever changing world of cybersecurity, privacy is a real concern for most users. The possibility of sensitive information becoming available to unauthorized accessors is a valid concern for users, and one that CEO Martin Denais, takes seriously as well. In his interview with TechCrunch, Denais points out that efforts are being made in order to limit access to sensitive health information by Callyope itself, and healthcare providers. However, cybersecurity is an ever-evolving battle ground and a person's private information is increasingly valuable to those who seek it.

Speech analysis is still a relatively unproven technology. While there are numerous studies and a lot of research evaluating the efficacy of speech analysis available, it is still a relatively new scientific development and one that is still met with a lot of uncertainty. There is much research and development needed for this type of technology in all its practical applications, including in healthcare assessments (DeStefano, 2023).

My opinion & Rationale on Callyope

As a current psychiatric nurse and future Psychiatric Nurse Practioner, Callyope is an exciting development in improving patient care and outcomes. Preventing relapse in mental health is paramount in any mental health care setting, however rapid re-hospitalizations are a very real and frustrating occurrence for providers and their patients. Improvements in monitoring a patient's mental health state could prove to be invaluable to providers. Callyope offers an easy to use tech application that can add another layer of protection, or safety net, between patients and severe deterioration of their mental health. I think of the money it would save for facilities and patients alike. I also think of the technology's potential to save lives.

I understand that research on speech analysis is ongoing and that Callyope itself is in its "infancy." However, I am excited and hopeful that this technology is developed appropriately and becomes available to improve patient outcomes and health overall. Cybersecurity and protection of our patient's healthcare information is a current threat now and will be into the future. I do approve of Callyope's goal to limit private information from being shared within the company itself and with healthcare providers, by striving to only provide a report generated by its speech analysis processes. This could facilitate a patient sharing their fully genuine answers to the assessment questions. It could also provide less risk of unauthorized access to sensitive patient on the healthcare provider's end by it simply not being available or shared.

It is easy for me to note improvements in others and to celebrate with them in their "wins." I invest a lot of time and energy into those around me in order for them to achieve. Their individual success ultimately leads to the success of the entire team.

Consistency : In having the strength of consistency, I am aware of the need to treat the people on my team in the same way every time. I would set clear goals and would hold all team members accountable by the same measure. This would help to promote a sense of equality and level expectations in all team members.

Relator : In being a relator, I would foster close relationships with my teammates. This would serve to promote a strong sense of satisfaction in all members working as a group and in achieving our goals. A happy team would meet, and likely exceed expectations, and feel a deep sense of satisfaction in doing so together.

Empathy : In having a strong sense of empathy, I would fostor a customized approach to each teammate.

My top 5 team mate selection would be:

Alice, the Achiever: Having a hard worker is invaluable to any project or goal. An achiever enjoys accomplishing their goals and could serve to motivate their other teammates to do so, as well.

Faith, the Futuristic Thinker: A futuristic thinker would serve to inspire our team with the possibilities of the future. As the project at hand would include a lot of new technologies and ideas, futuristic thinking is a must on this team.

Izzie with their Input: Izzie would be an invaluable source of knowledge with their drive to collect knowledge, excellent memory, and a mind for details. Every team needs data and information to achieve their goals, otherwise, their work would be misguided and may never come to completion.

Andrew, the Activator: Some times the hardest part of a project is just getting started. Andrew exceeds at putting thoughts into action. He would also have good insight in how best to start a project.

Carter, the Communicator: One of the hardest things for me is putting my thoughts eloquently into words. Carter excels in presenting ideas and conversation. He would be invaluable in presenting the final product of the teams hard work.
