Marriage was originally seen as deliberate and profound relationship involving two  families with their offspring having no say to who  or when they would marry. In some cultures, the parents would  married one child to the spirit of a child who has passed away in hope that it would strengthen familial bonds. The early Christian church was a trailblazer in arguing that marriage was not contingent on producing offspring. A Priest is appointed by the bishop to represent him to the local parish. It is here he preforms weekly masses and officiates rituals such as weddings and baptisms.
Bride
The bride is a female wedding participate who is soon to be married or is a newly-wed to her spouse.
 Groom
A Groom or a groom-man is a male participate in the wedding who is or is soon to be married to his bride.
Best Man
The best man  is one of the legal witnesses to sign the marriage license along with the priest. He is also responsible for organizing the bachelor party, giving the main toast at the reception and the Bible readings during the Mass
Maid of Honor
The maid of honor is a female friend of the bride who is also a legal witness for the marriage license. The maid of honor is responsible for the planning of the wedding and bible readings during the ceremony.

In the catholic wedding ceremony the bride usually wears a white veil. The meaning over time has differed due to an individual's preference but the original meaning of the veil is that the bride covers her face in hope that it will protect her from any evil spirits that might attempt to steal her away from her groom. The veil is worn while the bride is walking down the aisle until the alter where her husband revels her face. The white dress is to be worn as the color white symbolizes chastity and purity.

Originally in the catholic wedding ritual there is a ceremonial mass but due to modern society and the individuals preference it has changed overtime. If the wedding is completed with a mass, ithe priest will ask for the "sign of peace," holy Communion will follow.
