He has changed from when he was just a love-struck teenager to a full grown adult. He has a newfound understanding of how the world works. He also has created something he likes to call “strip light”. It is time travel but it is different. This is do in part to the machine does not go with you. In the book, in order for him to go ahead in time, someone had to stay back to turn off the machine or it would not complete its job. “I imagine that May-Rose had conditioned Dr. Monk to stay behind and switch off the Machine. But there’s nobody alive to do it now. The protagonist also know as Jimmy Hicks is resisting May-Rose and her goal to cleanse the human race of our sins. He is tackling the roadblocks with the help of soldiers that reside on the base. They are forced to nearly annihilate the top parts of the bunker using gasoline. When they do so the men will no longer be living which also means May-Rose will no longer have control of them. May-Rose is being trapped in the bottom levels of the bunker unable to escape. She is trying to get them to join her side but is failing. “Enough. I intend to transform all of you, too.”(Page 224) She says this to force Jimmy and the geniuses to join her side.

Humans have faults- In the story the protagonist is not a where of the dystopian control. He has not been alerted to it yet, but I think he will know very soon. The dystopian control is trying to get rid of all humans with faults.

The main character is experiencing a feeling of being trapped. He is unable to leave the base to be with his family and is being confined to strictly one section of the base. Not only does he want to leave the base he wants to go on a date with his girlfriend. He wants to do this to impress her and just go somewhere they have not been. They can only go around to the bunker’s restaurants.    “Once he activated the boosters, however, Jimmy would be crossing the line, He’d be interfering with the security of a top secret government facility” (page eleven). “He wanted to impress a girl”(page eleven). 
I chose that picture because the person in the picture is trapped, they are confined to one space and have very little freedoms.

The story takes place over the course of twenty-four hours. There is a top secret military bunker in the snowy highland valley. The only thing you can see of the bunker is the dormitories, but underneath them is a ginormous bunker full of laboratories and offices. Above ground, the dormitories are surrounded by two main fences both being too high and too dangerous to climb. Inside of those fences are pine trees; they engulf the dormitories and everything else except for a 100 yard-stretch of clearing. The clearing is there in case of any would-be intruders or escapees the watchmen would see them very clearly. On the outer fence are towers higher than the trees, and they are filled with watchmen and guards. This all takes place on Christmas Eve, 2007. “At 2000 hours on Monday, 24 December 2007, Pinewood Military Installation exploded”(page four).
