Differentiated Instruction should be used to meet all students where they are academically at. Some students may be more advanced than others, but teaching differentiated instruction allows all students to be challenged in the manner they need to be challenged. Growth mindset should be cultivated in all students, at whatever level they are at. All students can learn and improve and have to try something multiple times before they can get it right or perfect. Instruction should be formatted to help students have a growth mindset wherever they are at in their education. Giving many chances

Building relationships with students will help them persevere through that teacher’s class. They will want to try hard because they have a relationship with that teacher and perhaps want to impress them. In addition, when teachers have relationships with their students, they are able to use equity to help their students learn. When students hear from their teachers that they are good enough, they start to believe it and have more grit and growth mindset. They will try again and again because someone else believes in them, and will be more apt to persevere through challenges when they feel this.

TP 1: Remediation is important to help students meet the standards. If they just keep trying to take a test over and over, they aren’t really learning and will not meet the standard. We propose that although excellence is not attainable because improvement is always possible, meeting set state standards for understanding is possible when students are given multiple opportunities to work their way to mastery of these concepts without fear of moving on.

Students must put in effort to show that they want to get a better grade. In the process, students will learn more about the topic and will probably do better on the test. When they do process work, they prove to the teacher that they do know the information and want another chance at the test or assessment (Jackson)

Remediation can take on many different forms, from parent-teacher conferences, to worksheet practice, to help sessions, etc. (Stack, 2013).

Making students earn a retake is an effective way to reduce the amount of second-grading you will have to do, and students will also prove to you that they are ready to be reassessed (Bolliat, 2018).

WHY even give a retake in the first place? -> We need to assess behavior and knowledge separately (Ex: a very busy student may not have much time to study, but they may really know a lot (Bolliat, 2018)
