-There are many restrictions on what is and isn't a mosque.

-The mosques originated from the Arabian peninsula.

-Some people think the first mosque is near the Ka'ba, called the Al-Masjid Mosque.

-Other people think the first mosque was built by Mohammed in Medina, called the Quba Mosque.

-The first mosque in Egypt was the Mosque of Amr ibn al-As, though non of it's previous structure is still there today.

-The first mosque built in northwest Africa was the Great Mosque of Kairouan. It was the first to incorporate a square minaret, as opposed to other circular ones.

-The first mosque in East Asia was the Great Mosque of Xi'an. Its features are strange compared to other mosques. This was because minarets were not allowed at first.

-There are two holidays where there are prayers to be held at mosques in the morning (Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha).

-On these days, some mosques will rent out large buildings to hold even more Muslims.

-After the fasting time of Ramadan (sunrise-sundown), mosques will often host dinner, called Iftar.

-The third pillar of Islam says that Muslims are supposed to give one-fortieth of their income to charity as Zakat, most Muslims give their Zakat to a mosque.
