         <description><![CDATA[<div>"New demographic and social developments, along with the anxieties over the Cold War, changed U.S. culture and led to significant political and moral debates that sharply divided the nation."&nbsp;<br>The division of the nation was generally caused by economic and social changes, along with the anxiety over the Cold War. Many artists, intellectuals and youth challenged the economic, social, and political changes with the Beat movement (writers that challenged middle class conformity). Another organization which challenged economic changes was The Affluent Society in 1958 which brought attention to income disparity in post World War 2. Mostly well-known in this period was the Feminists and the Counterculture of the 1960s which in similar challenged social (marijuana), economic (rejected materialism), and political (protested the Vietnam War, Civil Rights, and promoted women's rights) changes in the U.S. </div>]]></description>

The Chicano Movement encompassed a broad spectrum of things such as  restoration of land grants, farm workers' rights, enhanced education, etc. An important figure from this era was Cesar Chavez,  a leader of the farm labor movement in California. Some important figures in the Civil Rights Movement&nbsp;were Malcom X, Martin Luther King Jr., the Black Panther Party, Thurgood Marshall, etc. A few significant events that occurred during this time period were the Montgomery Bus Boycott, sit-ins protesting racial segregation, the Little Rock Nine group of students </div>]]></description>
