The essential message this song is conveying is heartbreak. Because James wants Betty back, but Betty has moved on, we see this young, slightly immature story of heartbreak, and how even though Betty and James are so young, their feelings are still valid.

The overall purpose of this song is to show that people can overcome tragedy.

I choose to analyze the village by Wrabel. The speaker of this song is someone who has faced profound prejudice because they want to be trans, from their family, church and strangers. But they also have gotten past this to be who they wanted to be. The audience is someone young, who also wants to be trans, but is facing the same prejudice our speaker faced. This song is all about accepting yourself for who you are, moving past what others say about you. This song is specifically referring to trans people, and how they should accept who they are, knowing there is nothing wrong with them, only those around them who don't support them.

The song I chose to analyze is “Family Business” by Kanye West. In this song Kanye is the speaker he is speaking directly to his cousin who is in jail for committing murder. The purpose is to communicate is unconditional love for family even through thick and thin. He makes references to the feeling of loss he feels at family gatherings without his cousin. And that even if his cousin did commit this horrible crime he will forever love him because he is family. He gets nostalgic throughout the song recalling times when him and his cousin were children and how they didn’t appreciate the little moments, and how life has gone by so fast.
