         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>He surrounded himself with ministers who counsled independence.  His Family fled to Brazil when Napoleon invaded Portugal.  John VI had to go back to Portugal to explain himself to the people to give reasons why he left.  He left his son Pedro to be in charge of Brazil.  This was a Portuguese colony at the time.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>After his father died, He had progressed to become a titular king.  This means that he didn't have much power.  He got saved from deposition.  He failed his military.  He was induced to abdicate in 1831 by Brazilian Parliament and local uprisings.  He left Brazil to go back to Portugal, there he reigned  as Pedro IV.  He left his son, Dom Pedro II in charge<br><br><br></div>]]></description>
