"Mercun" and "bunga api" are terms used in Malaysia and some other Southeast Asian countries to refer to firecrackers and fireworks, respectively. These are often used during celebrations, including Eid al-Fitr, which is known locally as Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Mercun: These are firecrackers. They make loud noises when lit, creating a festive and exciting atmosphere during celebrations like Eid al-Fitr. People often set them off in strings to create a series of pops and bangs.

Bunga Api: These are fireworks. Unlike firecrackers, fireworks are designed to create colorful lights and patterns in the sky. They add a visual spectacle to the celebration.

Both mercun and bunga api are used during Eid al-Fitr to make the occasion more festive and fun. However, they should be used carefully, following safety rules, because they can be dangerous if mishandled.

After the evening prayers and festivities, family members, especially elders, often distribute duit raya to the younger ones as a token of blessings and goodwill. Later in the night or even the next morning, children might gather to count and organize the money they've received.
