There was an explosion in one of the towers due to a reckless and unessesary "security test" that just pushed the boundaries of the technology at the time and created this awful disaster. The ones in carge of this "test" basicly did everything that they could do wrong the wrong way. Firefighters tried to put a stop to the fire thinking that it was a regular one but many died just secconds after going near the power plant because of al of the radiation.

 People living near there weren't evacuaded until days later. The authorities lied to them telling them if was just a normal fire.  When they were finally evacuaded it was too late. Weeks later almost all of they had either died or had mutations in their bodies thanks to the radiation.

Jumping forward to the present the area were all of this happened is still a little bit dangerous to visit. Nature has slowly reclaimmed the land and the area is slowly healing.

Other Eastern European countries have drawn on the coal reserves. Burning coal and order personal foils send chemicals into the air that cause acid rain, that is precipitation that acidic. In parts of Poland and Czech republic poorest have been destroyed by acid rain And soils are too contaminated for crops. Worse, polluted water and soil have cause higher rates of birth defects, cancer and other diseases today many countries have begun to address environmental problems. to join the European Union countries must install equipment to make power plants cleaner now to the problem of acid rain is much less serious in Eastern Europe and the forest are starting to recover.
