First act against drugs to levy taxes on morphine and opium<br>- <strong>1909</strong>: Smoking Opium Exclusion Act (no smoking opium, but still medication). <br>- <strong>1914</strong>: Harrison Act (gov. regulates production and distribution of opium and cocaine.)<br>- <strong>1919</strong>: Passed 18th amendment (ban manufacture, selling, transport of liquor.)&nbsp; 21st amendment (1933) repealed 18th. Volstead Act (how to enforce prohibition.)<br>- <strong>1937</strong>: Marijuana Tax Act (first tax on marijuana. Did not criminalize possession, but penalties if you don't pay taxes.)<br>- <strong>1970</strong>: Controlled Substances Act (regulating most drugs and substances. Five 'schedules' for drugs based medicine and danger.)
