  • Adiga uses the symbolism of a rooster coop to bring the horror and pain that the Caste System brings to the lower class. 
  • Darkness brings the fear of suffering and lonliness to the main character. 
  • The light and the dark both have negative and positive impacts on  individuals, as well as society.

    • Although the actual caste system rules have been abolished there is still discrimination towards others in different social classes. 
    • the idea of how people of the servant class are kept in the dark and seen as less important to society than those of a higher class.
    • This is a similar representation to how Adiga describes the caste system in the White Tiger; the upper classman see the “chicken coop” or the caste system as order in society, the lower classman view it as a cage, a cycle of poverty they are stuck in.

  • We all perceive suffering in a different way; everyone is suffering. 
  • "Just Cause" 
    • The main characters actions vs the outcome from his actions, are they justified? 
  • We have symbols that make us think something represents light and others represent dark, as individuals who all think and express thoughts differently, we perceive suffering in different ways. 

    •  "But where my genuine concern for him ended and where my self-interest began, I could not tell: no servant can ever tell what the motives of his heart are... We are made mysteries to ourselves by the Rooster Coop we are locked in" (Adiga,  126).
