Ratliff explains that a single note can be the truest thing in a song and the soul of a song. It means to stand out and be heard. The single note can 'ground the operation' and acknowledges rhythm and theory in a piece of music. I love how Ratliff describes it and I fully agree with his thoughts. I like how he says it can push the envelope of comfortableness and make the listener a little uneven on the song, it urges them to pay attention to the song. Ratliff also goes to say that a song with thus sort of structure in it can make the listener feel more alive when hearing the music and I really liked that thought of his.
