I have a few recommendations that will promote teaching literacy in the classroom. Offering students activities through art that connects to literacy. For example have students create  graffiti boards where they record their comments and questions about a topic students also are encouraged to add art to the board. Another factor to incorporate is the multi-media into your literacy classroom for example allow students to watch a movie and reflect on the theme and meaning the movie conveys.

Allowing students maybe 15 minutes daily of independent reading improves comprehension. Also it helps students build on their vocabulary. Lastly independent reading helps fluency.
