Then, toward the end of the session, somebody got the bright idea of including one section, exclusively for farm workers, that prohibited hiring halls in the state¨ (pg. 454).
- ¨This would perpetuate the growers´ power over the workers¨ (pg. 454).
- ¨The reason a hiring hall is so important to us because of the way people get jobs in agriculture¨ (pg. 454).
- ¨You never know what you´re going to get paid, and if you complain about the housing or conditions, you get fired on the spot¨ (pg. 454).
- ¨The hiring hall changes all this, establishing rules by which people can get jobs without discrimination¨ (pg. 454).
- ¨It provides job protection¨ (pg. 454).
- ¨We forced them to start really checking and enforcing the labor camp registration law¨ (pg. 461).
- ¨The health department director have known for two months that the water in Miami Beach had been contaminated¨ (pg. 458).
- ¨So we went back to our campaign and God, if a short time later, our guys working with somebody else don´t find this guy named Joe Brown, a labor contractor, who´s keeping twenty-nine farm workers as slaves¨ (pg. 459).

Levy, Jacques. Cesar Chavez Autobiography of La Causa. Minneapolis: U of Minnesota Press, 2007.
