2 The brownface controversy refers to the act of darkening a person’s skin to portray someone of a different, usuallydarker, racial group. In this case, it involved a Chinese actor darkening his skin to play an Indian character in the advertisement. This sparked outrage because it was seen as disrespectful and offensive.

This can be seen when the NETS company portrayed a malay to act as an Indian in the poster instead of hiring an Indian actor. Reasons may be because they are to lazy to try and find someone from the Indian community ( the minorities) to portray as their culture. And this angers the public, the minorities especially because they portray Indians and malays as the same race.

Q2. I think the rap video in response to the Nets e-pay was not appropriate. It was understandable that people was angry with the rap video as it contained offensive content, however using vulgar language and attacking people from other races wil only create more tension and division.

qn2. it was discriminative towards the other races as the Chinese man had dressed up as those with different races instead of having people of other races for the advertisement. People of those races might feel offended because their culture is portrayed in an insensitive manner.

No I don't think it was appropriate because it attacked Chinese singaporeans even though they were not the ones at fault for the ad. This could have started many stereotypes.
