         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Whitney Young Jr. was born on July 31, 1921 in Lincoln Ridge, Kentucky, U.S (NASWFoundation, 2021). He died on March 11, 1971 in Lagos, Nigeria. His mother was a teacher and father was the principal of the Lincoln Institute (NASWFoundation, 2021). He graduated from Kentucky State Industrial College, worked as a teacher, and served in World War II (NASWFoundation, 2021). He got married in 1944 and had two children. Young was a civil rights activist, social worker, and statesman that served as the first dean of the School of Social work at Clark Atlanta University (NASWFoundation, 2021). Young was also a prominent lecturer and author (NASWFoundation, 2021). Throughout his career, Young received many honors and awards for his civil rights accomplishments (NASWFoundation, 2021).</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>-National Urban League: After returning to the states from serving overseas, Young earned his MSW and worked with the Urban League of St. Paul where he helped place African Americans in "Whites-only" employee positions (NASWFoundation, 2021).<br><br>-League Omaha Branch (1950)- Young became executive secretary and was a key player in the racial integration of the region (NASWFoundation, 2021). In the upcoming years, Young took the position as dean of Atlanta's University School of Social Work while remaining active in the Civil Rights Movement and the NAACP (NASWFoundation, 2021).<br><br>-National Urban League (1961)- Young became the director of the National Urban League where he handled the organization's structure, budget, staff and transformed the organization into a leader in the civil rights movement (A&amp;E Networks Television, 2021).<br><br>-Presidential Advisor: Young was an advisor to Lyndon B. Johnson and was known for his Domestic Marshall Plan that helped shape Johnson's policies that were related to the civil rights movement (A&amp;E Networks Television, 2020).<br><br>-Young received many honorary awards such as the Medal of Freedom in 1969 by President Lyndon B. Johnson and was honored in 1981 by the United States Postal Service by being placed on a postage stamp (NASWFoundation, 2021). He wrote several books such as "To be Equal" (1964) and Beyond Racism (1969) (NASWFoundation, 2021).</div>]]></description>

         <title>Young&#39;s accomplishments and their influence on the social work profession </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Civil rights leader Whitney Young Jr., was influential in the social work profession for a variety of reasons (A&amp;E Networks Television, 2020). Not only did Young hold a Master's degree in social work, but he also was the dean at the School of Social Work at Clark Atlanta University (A&amp;E Networks Television, 2020). During this time, he was a key player in getting the CSWE to adopt an accreditation standard on non-discrimination (A&amp;E Networks Television, 2020). From 1961-1971, He was a pivotal advisor to U.S. Presidents such as John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard M. Nixon (A&amp;E Networks Television, 2020). Primarily, he received the Medal of Freedom (1969) from President Johnson for his notable involvement in the civil rights movement (A&amp;E Networks Television, 2020).&nbsp;In essence, Young facilitated civil rights legislation that encompassed reducing crime, ending poverty, abolishing inequality and improving the environment.  </div>]]></description>
