         <description><![CDATA[<p>Sensory Memory: is a brief recall of sensory experiences.  </p><p>Examples: sight, hear, and touch.</p><p><br></p><p>Sensory is part of the short-term memory, however though it is even shorter then the short-term memory.</p><p><br></p><p>There are 5 subsystems of the sensory memory:</p><p>      1) Haptic (touch)</p><p>      2) Echoic (auditory)</p><p>      3) Iconic (visual)</p><p>      4) Olfactory (smell)</p><p>      5) Gustatory (taste)</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Transfer is the ability of ones brain to transfer information into the long-term memory, and it is used throughout school.</p><p><br/></p><p>Teachers try to use building blocks when teaching.  Start with the basic of the idea, and build upon that idea, so that they are able to transfer the information into long-term memory, but also be able to transfer the information to paper.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>"Research on the forgetting curve shows that within 1 hour, learners forget an average of 50% of the information presented; within 24 hours, they forget an average of 70% of new information; and within a week, they forget up to 90% of what they learned"(Clearwater).</p><p><br/></p><p>So how does teachers help students retain the information that they have learned?</p><p>The use of visuals, background knowledge, chunks on content at a time, give students opportunities to talk and teach things they have learned.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Trauma to the brain can cause delays in learning.  Students or adults who suffer from trauma may have difficulties in being able to process information correctly.  They may understand one step, but struggles to remember the next couple of steps.</p><p><br></p><p>They may also have difficulties with memory, due to the emotional impact that trauma can have on the brain.</p>]]></description>
