We discussed how fear drives you to do things that are crazy. Stephen King writes about how humans are all insane. The class interpreted this as all humans have a dark spot in their head, and malicious thoughts. We questioned if this should be illegal or not, but concluded that it is not forbidden to have these thoughts. It is when you act out these gruesome ideas you should be jailed. Fear and excitement both give you this additive adrenaline, so fear can feel just like excitement. That is one reason people love scary things.

As a class, we didn't dig too deep into Stephen King's idea of fear having its own personality. Fear is a controlling, overwhelming feeling that takes over you. This emotion, for example in Disney's movie Inside Out, slams buttons in your head and sets off alarms.

The idea that most people can have "violent" thoughts or thoughts that come from places of anger, I believe was discussed completely and in full during the seminar. We discussed how we are not considered "insane" unless we act on these thoughts, but that none the less many people tend to have them. We discussed how while most people have thoughts out of anger, these thoughts are not normalized in society, but rather shunned and forced to be kept down.

Since we are all insane, we are all similar, but everyone is insane at different levels. What people think does not matter, but how they act on their insanity driven desires does. Horror movies are one a a few things that serve as a type of outlet for people to satisfy their "dark side's" desires.

As a class, we talked about the fact the a majority, if not all, humans have a darker side to them and the only thing that keeps society from labeling them as "crazy" is their ability to "hide" it (not act on their desires).

We talked about how, as humans, we wanted to test fear, and sometimes crave the adrenaline that it gives. We also talked about horror movies and how they could be the food that satiates humans darkest desires. We also touched on, if horror movies were able to quench that taste and prohibited further action.
