Haymitch has a family to protect, and being thrown into the Hunger Games makes this task undeniably harder. Not only is he from the weakest district, he's being put into a Quarter Quell, designed to be infinitely more entertaining for the viewers, and much deadlier for the tributes. With double the competition, the odds are not in his favor.

After this book, you might have an eternal hatred for squirrels, a distaste for milk and bread, and an even stronger dislike of President Snow.

As their stories progress, both characters are forced to confront their pasts and the choices that have led them to this moment, leading to unexpected revelations and a thrilling climax.

Summary: Mae Holland, the main character, gets a spot at The Circle, the leading company in technology in the world. Throughout the story, she and the Circle both change drastically, and soon many start to question how the company does not allow anyone privacy, and also question the three lines that integrate themselves into the Circlers' (Circle employees) lives: "Secrets are lies, sharing is caring, and privacy is a theft"

This book does have quite a lot of language and mature/explicit themes. I would rate it 15-16+ or a (very) mature 13+

Author: Shannon Messenger's writing is very detailed, letting the reader feel the emotions of the book, and be swept away by her stories.

Book: Shannon's most recent book, Keeper of the Lost Cities 9.5, Unravelled, follows Keefe, a troubled boy with a hard past, as he tries to figure out his new, mysterious powers. Keefe tries to cover up his problems with jokes, but he can't run from them forever. Soon, Keefe meets someone who helps him gain more control over his powers and gives him a sense of friendship in his trials.

I'd recommend starting with The Inheritance Games. It's a trilogy with a sequel and a book that ties up loose ends.

A young woman named Avery Kylie Grambs who inherits the fortune of a multi-billionaire named Tobias Hawthorne in Texas. However, not everyone in the Hawthorne House is excited about Avery's arrival. With the help of the Hawthorne brothers (Nash, Grayson, Jameson, and Xander), Avery solves riddle after riddle as she learns how she became the heir to Tobias Hawthorne's fortune.

Summary: Matt Hallowell, a 12-13 year old boy, is left alone to guard his family's cabin in the forests of Maine for the entire summer of 1768. While by himself, he befriends the local Native American tribe, the Beaver clan. Matt gets to know the grandson of the chief, Attean, a boy around Matt's age. Near the end, Matt has to make a tough decision, which I can't really go into detail.

Shelby Van Pelt weaves together a "found family" story about a handful of people from different walks of life as well as an octopus named Marcellus. The writing is quirky and fun and Marcellus is a hard character not to love. It's a light and heartwarming read. Even if books with animals as characters is not your usual pick, you'll probably enjoy this book.

The story takes place 64 years the first hunger games book. It talks about the early life of the future king of Panem, Cornelius Snow. He gets the task of training one of the districts before they get thrown into the game. By luck, he gets the worst of the worst by getting the girl from district 12, Lucy Gray.

Cornelius is forced to prepare her the best he can by surviving on his wits and Lucy Gray's incredible voice for singing.

In the story, two kids go to their grandfather's mansion and discover that it is a reserve for magical creatures. Their grandfather tells them not to go into the woods, but they decide to go in anyway. They find a witch who is trying to release eveil magical creatures onto the property. Their grandfather eventually gets kidnapped, and they have to go and save him.

This book is about a colonist boy named James and a Native American boy named Anikwa, who have formed a very special friendship. But when the War of 1812 arrives, their friendship is put to the test while their families are choosing whether or not they will stay true to their friends, or to their country.

I love the way that Helen Frost writes. The way that she switches perspectives throughout the story really gives the reader the chance to understand every aspect of the story. It was almost inspiring to read an author's book that was written like this, after I have previously written a narrative in this style. Also, the differences between the writings of the two characters gives the story a dramatic effect. Frost also ties in some cultural aspects into the way the story is written. For example the layout of each poem.

If you like Russian history, this book will enchant you. It follows the life of "imprisoned" Count Rostov during/after the Bolshevik revolution. The characters grow and change and the ending is a little unexpected and bittersweet.

Towles is an excellent writer!

The first book is from the perspective of Rose, the main character. The book tells the reader about Rose's mom dying in a car crash, and Rose is now an orphan. She then moves to live with her grandmother who she barely ever talked to, since they had lived in different states. Rose's grandmother spends most of her time inside her greenhouse, and the first time Rose stepped foot into the greenhouse, it was like she'd lost all sense of time. As Rose wandered through the greenhouse, she felt as if it were much brighter than it was when she first walked in it. As she if inside the greenhouse she tries to go back to her room but finds herself outside f a castle.

I don't want to spoil the book, but the greenhouse is like a portal. And she travels back to the time of Elizabeth I.

The books don't have to be read in chronological order, but I would recommend it.

Team Blue, made up of Goggles, Specs, Headphones, and Bobble Hat, is always made fun of and looked down on. They're very silly, and often don't take things seriously. When they start to face off against higher ranked teams, their peers learn that there may be more to this team than meets the eye.

Please note that this series (16 books, with 3 new ones in a different setting) is a Japanese manga, meaning it reads right to left. Also, some aspects of the story might be confusing for those who haven't played the game, but Hinodeya does a great job at explaining how the world works in the first book.
