When he was 13, his family immigrated to the United States for a better life and better life opportunities like many other immigrants. There was no language barrier because English is considered a second language in the Philippines. Jason said that a big change was the way how people act. Citizens of the Philippines treat each other like family and are respectful in his experiences. Food was another big culture shock to him because almost every meal was eaten with rice, and there more food choices here in America. Pinatubo erupted. Jason doesn't remember much of this global event when it happened. Mt. Pinatubo is a stratovolcano that was eroded with forests and had many people living in it. The volcano released 1cubic mile of material that covered the land in ash. This was the second largest terrestrial eruption of the 20th century. Luckily, Jason did not live near the area of which the event occurred.
