I want to share one of my most memorable experiences—sleeping over at my friend's house. It was a Friday afternoon after school, and I was so excited. My favorite sport is golf, and I go to the golf course to practice every day. At a golf course near us, I encounter coyotes all the time. Many times I have seen coyotes walking around while playing on the golf course. Once, I even saw a coyote attack a mallard duck.

At that time, I felt panic, but I couldn't take my eyes away from this scene, I was completely fascinated! The coyote chased the mallard and eventually bit its wing. After they struggled for a while, the coyote ran away with the duck in its mouth!

I want to share a story with you. This story is about a random run in China. The day before the run, I spoke with my friends and agreed to get up at five o'clock and go for a run at a track near both of our houses. On the day of the run, I went downstairs with my grandpa and waited for my uncle to pick me up. When my uncle came, he was riding a motorcycle. Since I haven’t ridden motorcycle for a long time, I found it particularly exciting this time. When I got to the track, my friend hasn't arrived yet, so I ran four or five laps first. In the end, I ran about five kilometers in total and we both had fun.

I also have two twin brothers who are very irritating. My hobbies include, basketball, trombone, and piano. I've recently been reading this book called Three Body Problem written by Cixin Liu. The book was originally written in Chinese, so I'm reading the translated version. I'm curious if you've heard or read the book and if you haven't, I highly recommend it as your next read.

A funny story I want to share is that once, there was a lock down at our school. There had been an alert that someone unwelcome was near our campus. The principal told the teachers through the loudspeaker to lock the doors, close the windows, and turn off the lights. During that time, our class was taking a test so the teacher told us to grab our computers, take it under with us, and continue the test. You can guess how funny the scene was. 30 or so students squatting under their chairs with computers glowing up their faces. In the end, it turned out to be a false alarm and was really nothing. Oh! I just remembered a story regarding food. Let me tell it to you: One day, I was walking with my sister to go buy milk tea, but I didn’t know what flavor to choose. However, my sister knew, so I just went in line to wait in line. When we were at the register though, I still didn’t know what to buy, so I asked my sister to choose for me. In the end, I ended up with a green-slushy looking drink. To be honest, it looked kind of disgusting, but I still decided to try it. When I tried it though, it was REALLY good. Not only was it cold, it was also icy, and had a nice texture. Also, it had boba in it which was really chewy! At the very end, it became one of my favorite foods/drinks, and this experiences taught me that you should always try something before you judge it (you never know!).

Now, I would like to share a story with you. When I was on vacation, I was in Hawaii and we went whale watching. We boarded a boat and then we went along the coast towards the sea. When we boarded the boat, I thought that it was kind of weird because the guides told us to take off our shoes. In about 20 minutes, we started to see some whales! I saw so many whales that I don’t know exactly how many I saw. I even saw a baby whale! It was very adorable. I think I was very lucky because some people on the boat tried to go whale watching in the morning, but they did not even see a single whale!

I have a fun and interesting story to tell you.... Last week we went to the beach but the water was too cold so we decided to look for seashells instead. We looked and looked but found nothing special. When we turned the corner we saw something fascinating, a whale on the sandy beach! My mom said it was probably dead and I believed her because the air smelled terrible and the whale looked like it didn't have a flipper.

Hi! It’s very nice to meet you. My name is Le Xi. A lot of people mispronounce my name the first time. It’s pronounced Lexi, so sometimes I write Lexi on my papers to make it easier for other people. It's crazy what a space between your name can do to you. I'm a 7th grader at Miller Middle School. I am 12 years old. There are 5 people in my family: my dad, mom, brother and sister. My brother is 9 years old and my sister is 2. My favorite sports are swimming and volleyball. I often read a series called “Keeper of the Lost Cities”. A new book is being released in December, so I’m pretty excited about that. I play the piano and clarinet.

There’s a story I’d like to share with you. One time I went to Lake Tahoe with my family. There was very heavy traffic so we arrived at around 10:00 pm. Instead of sleeping in a tent, we slept in a yurt. There was a heater and a lamp, so it was warm. When I walked in, my first thought was: “I should’ve brought a book.” The yurt smelled like trees. Although maybe it's because we were surrounded by trees. There was also a bunk bed and a regular bed. The mattress for both beds were soft, much better than an air mattress. I had to drag myself out of the yurt every morning. If it’s possible, I’d like to live in a yurt again next time.

Hello! My name is Erin, and my Chinese name is 文嘉華. I am a seventh grader who goes to Miller Middle School. I recently turned thirteen years old. There are six people in my family. My dad, my mom, my grandpa, my grandma, my brother, and me. Recently, my grandparents moved from New York to our house, so our family got two more people. It was kind of exciting. When I have free time, I like  to draw and read. My favorite color is purple, and my favorite season is Winter. This is because Christmas is during the winter. Also, it rains in the winter, which I find comforting and peaceful. Besides mushrooms and jerky, I love all foods.

I’ve always hated mushrooms, but when I was little, I loved eating jerky. Its salty yet sweet flavor was something I absolutely adored. But one time, I opened a new pack of jerky and took a big bite. Only then, did I notice the jerky tasted kind of weird. When I looked down, I discovered that the jerky was growing mold! Ever since then , I’ve never touched a pack of jerky.

A big bone got stuck in my throat when I ate a piece of chicken. I couldn't swallow it or spit it out. My mom and dad rushed me to an emergency center, but it was closed at that time. We had to go to another emergency center, which took six or seven minutes. At the emergency center, I met two very patient doctors. My name is Isabella Cheung, I am currently twelve years old and in seventh grade. My hobby and the sport that I am best at, is volleyball. I started learning volleyball in third grade, so it's been almost four years! Since I have been studying volleyball for four years, I have many volleyball stories.

One story is that when I started volleyball in third grade, obviously, I wasn’t very good at it. I was afraid of the ball coming to me, and actually receiving the ball, because I was afraid of getting hurt. At the time, I was very weak and because of that, I got injured really easily. When I was a child, my family and I traveled around. These are my most unforgettable memories because when I got home, I had a new interest. This was a great experience for me. Also, traveling outside to other places brought me moments of joy. I still miss the joy of those years. Although this period of my life has passed, every winter, we travel to a new place. 

The short story I want to share with you is when I went to Hawaii last year. One day, my family and I went scuba diving. When I put my head under the surface of the water, I saw a great diversity of fish. There were many fish with different colors and sizes. When you get close to them, they swim away quickly one by one, like a bolt of lightning. Suddenly, a person said， "I saw a turtle, right here!" My sister and I immediately swam over and plunged our heads into the water. A sea turtle swims along the seafloor. I was very excited because I had never seen a turtle in person. A few seconds later, another person yelled, "The turtle is coming, everyone, get out of the way!" Suddenly, one of my flippers fell off and started to sink. I tried to catch it in a hurry, but failed dismissively. At that time I thought: I’ll just leave it there, I can’t get to it anyway. To my surprise, my flipper rose to the surface. Without thinking, I put on my flipper and swam to the side. This is a short story that occurred in my life. What is life like in China? Does it snow in the winter?
