I resonate with her way of songwriting that is very vivid and personal. She has a constant theme in her songs with combining keys with layers of her harmonic vocals that is unique in the way that she does it as it reflects her vast vocal range. I admired the clarity in her voice and pronunciation of words as she sang. Her live performances including the one in 2005 for the Grammys, she did one of her classic "If I ain't got you" and it showcased her ability to mix classical sounding keys and melody with RnB/Soul (ultraviolet027, 2010). It always felt like spoken word or poetry in motion. It inspired me to expand to be more intentional with every tone, without straining my vocal chords by simply being louder.

Her actual name is Gabriella Wilson and she has a very vast music range that includes indie, pop, and Rnb, which I resonate with in terms of my own genre of music when it comes to songwriting and composing. She was also the only woman of colour that I had seen on media at that time that played a Stratocaster! That inspired me to start playing the guitar. I was a very soft and quiet singer growing up, and her techniques with falsettos and strength in her intimate mezzo-soprano vocal style, inspired me to be more confident and grow in my own way as a singer-songwriter, especially during a time when more belt-y singers were celebrated and seen within my circle of friends and family at least. Her authenticity not only in songwriting but also clothing style, and constantly having a kind and graceful demeanor has inspired me to accept more of my way of wanting to expand and perform as a musician.

I grew up with my parents listening to hindi and tamil songs and a lot of the songs were produced by A.R.Rahman. The instrumental compositions in his music stood out to me in-comparison to other types of music. He's integration of sitar, flute and classical Indian sounding melodies made modern has always given me this sense of calm, nostalgia and inspiration. It has always inspired me to merge the unique melodic composition when I'm making songs today especially from the slower, ballet songs that he producers.

A.R.Rahman has always seen himself as a composer/musician, and he has never taken the art of singing seriously until he met and collaborated with the late Lata Mangeshkar (Bureau, 2022). She was an Indian Marathi playback singer that has inspired A.R.Rahman to be more meticulous, passionate and dedicated when it comes to singing and performing (Bureau, 2022). He recalls in an interview that by accident he witnessed Lata reciting the lyrics to her songs very slowly with her assistant after a show, and that inspired a thought in him and that is to be more serious when it comes to singing (Bureau,2022).

The videos made her go "Man, I want to be a rock star" (Lakes, 2022). Their performance inspired H.E.R to be confident in becoming a musician (Lakes, 2022). She also states that she was inspired by the distorted sound of their live performances and wanted to replicate it (Center, 2020). That then led her to becoming the first black female to have a Stratocaster and collaborate with Fender (Center, 2020).

Songs compared would be A Natural Woman and If I Ain't Got You (Weaver, 2018). Alicia has also been inspired by Aretha's piano playing, gospel, soul musical style and admires the vulnerable, and honest emotionality her music brings forth to the world. The song Ain't No Way by Aretha, Alicia comments "it captures an honest moment!" (Kenner, 2012)
