They both refused to become involved.<br>- As a result, the Soviet Union decided to accept the non-aggression pact. It was supposed to last 10 years, but Nazi Germany attempted to invade the Soviet Union before this time.<br>- FDR believed Nazi Germany could be worse that the communist Soviet Union and he believed that if the United States helped the Soviet Union, then they would possibly abandon the idea of creating a world full of Communism.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>TRUMAN DOCTRINE<br>- The Truman Doctrine's purpose was to contain the Soviet Union's threat.<br>- President Truman gained support by exaggerating the Soviet threat and by claiming there were harsh differences between democracy and communism.<br>MARSHALL PLAN<br>- "As well as giving aid to Greece and Turkey, Congress decided to help revive the economies of Western European states by means of US credits and the revival of German economy."<br>- The plan was seen as an attempt to weaken Soviet control of Eastern Europe by both the USSR and US.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>CHILE<br>- During the 1964 election, the United States did not want Salvador Allende to be elected because they feared Allende would threaten US economic and business interests there and potentially give the USSR another foothold in Latin America (the other being Cuba).<br>- Evidence that suggests the CIA attempted to stop Allende from becoming president was the shooting of Chilean Chief General Schneider.<br>- In 1971- 72, the CIA was increasingly seen in Chilean politics through the 'economic destabilisation and warfare'.<br>- On September 11 1973, a coup was launched, headed by General Pinochet to overthrow Allende.&nbsp;<br>CUBA<br>- "With Cuban exiles already flying bombing missions from Florida and firing sugar-cane fields, Castro began to accuse the US of plotting the return of Batista. In fact from late 1959, the CIA was making use of Cuban exiles and hatching plans to disrupt the Cuban economy and destabilize Castro's government."<br>- In March 1960, the CIA persuaded Eisenhower to approve the training of an invasion force of right-wing Cuban exiles to overthrow Castro.</div>]]></description>
