A Good Listener

"Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in your charge, and that starts with listening." — Simon Sinek

With that in mind, we often lend our ears to those who present in front of us. We believe in the principle that to earn others' attention, you must first give them yours. This is simply a matter of respect.

Relating this to leadership, being a good listener is essential because it builds trust and understanding within the team. By doing so, we can foster a supportive environment where everyone feels valued.

"Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible." — Tony Robbins

We are all wholeheartedly goal-oriented because our primary aim is to graduate from the course we've chosen. Through challenges and triumphs, we support one another to uplift those who may be struggling. For us, being goal-oriented means not just achieving personal success, but achieving success together as a team.

In relation to leadership, being goal-oriented is essential as it provides clear direction and purpose for the team. This ensures that everyone is aligned and working towards a common vision, creating a strong sense of achievement along the way.

“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” – Maya Angelou

A good leader must know how to adjust to changing circumstances as they must also be the decision-maker for their fellow students. In order to make proper decisions, they need to learn how to adapt to situations faster and think fast. A student leader must not fear change but instead must welcome it as a challenge that they are excited to face :).

Encouraging with Empathy

"Empathy begins with understanding life from another person's perspective. Nobody has an objective experience of reality. It's all through our own individual prisms." - Sterling K. Brown

A good leader must also acknowledge and understand how their members are feeling. They should be able to foster an environment that is healthy, accepting, and welcoming of all feelings and emotions in order for their members to feel more comfortable in telling them why they will not be able to do their work on time and such. This is why a person needs to be encouraging. Being encouraging can help your members rise from the slumps and be more motivated to participate and help out.

"Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile." — Albert Einstein

Service to others is a powerful expression of compassion and responsibility. When students come together to join a social involvement activity—like cooking meals for children in an elementary school—they are offering more than just food. They are making a difference in the lives of those who need it most. In these moments, we learn the value of giving back, seeing firsthand how small actions can positively impact a community.

A good leader doesn't just focus on their own success but works for the betterment of those around them. A leader who puts the needs of their community first builds trust and inspires others to do the same. They create an environment with care for one another.

"We believe that transparency is needed to create trust, and it's also needed to create a dialogue." - Julie Sweet

Being transparent with your team creates a sense of trust and develops a special bond and connection with them which can lead to better efficiency overall. Being honest with your problems, telling them the truth, and criticizing honestly gives you credibility as a leader wherein they are able to listen and trust you as a leader. Transparency is very essential in a way that they will reciprocate this transparency you give them, leading to a very open team/community.

"There is no respect for others without humility in one's self" - Henri Frederic Amiel

Humility is a very vital part of being a leader. Being a leader is being able to understand that you yourself can make mistakes as well. Honing your humility will attract sympathy and allow yourself to be able to understand your members. Looking at each other as equals will create an opportunity to become open with each other's mistakes and shortcomings. This fosters a healthy environment for everyone in the team. Seeing their leader exercise humility, team members will not be scared or rigid as well as become honest and open about problems within the team.
