Everyone has their ways of learning different subjects. Usually when something is too difficult for a teenager (or tween for middle school) they'll push back and not get it done. 

And with mathematics specifically, there's so many small rules and directions that you have to follow in order to get the correct answer, it tends to get to be too much for a teenager. The two major parts of the human brain breaks down into artistic and numbers (don't quote me on that!). With almost anyone, they best way to get them to get something down is by engaging both sides of the brain.

Alas, people tend to have the negative thoughts about mathematics because of their relations with it. It causes them to pass it down into generations, making their kids feel like they can't. People think it's boring or hard in one way or another. Looking at an equation that has aspects like variables, fractions and square roots in conjunction of each other comes off challenging. Everyone has there own way of learning and there way of developmental growth, people sometimes don't like math because they don't think they will be as good as anyone else, there mindset isn't in the right place to do such a task, it can mess with your head and make you believe you are not capable. 

Some just think it gets way too hard in a certain area and then get left behind everyone else and then they end up giving up, which also makes them believe they are not capable of doing the task.

I think people don't like math because there's no freedom in it. Everything is done in a set way and everything has lots of rules and guidelines. Humans have created and changed things since the beginning, it is how we got to where we are today. No one wants to sit around and learn rules when they can be out making something instead. As an artist, I relate to this a lot. In all of my math classes I drew on the sides of the paper instead of doing the work. Why do you think people don't like math

Often times there is only one correct way to do a certain equation and if you make one mistake it could mess everything up. There's a lot of repetition with practice work and people can get really annoyed at that, especially if it is a long equation. Because math sucks. People who say they like math are lying to themselves and everyone around them. Most reasons can be seen as when if the person's parents cannot do Math, then that means they also cannot or maybe that the numbers and concepts that Math has confuses many. I believe that many people don't like math because of how it was taught to them. Such as in a boring "flat" way, by a monotonous professor, or by an angry parent. All of these things build up a negative view of math because of the bad experiences they have had with math.

Math is one of those things that not many people understand, it can be difficult for those who can't learn the specific way a curriculum is making them. People don't like math, because there are so many rules that must be memorized and followed. There is no room for interpretation, as math is facts. A mistake in an equation can lead to an entirely wrong answer. This can leave students stressed. 

As the years go by, math gets harder and while this seems normal, a lot of math that high schoolers learn can't be applicable to life.

Another reason is that in math classes, we cram for tests that get students stressed and after the test, whether they failed or not, we move on. The lessons are eventually forgotten. It's a loop of stressful studying and in the end, many students feel as though they have learned nothing.

Also, if students fall behind in the course, it feels as though they can never catch up to the others. Most people will set a mindset for themselves that they either are not good at math or only certain people are born with good math skills and Stanford students have done scientific research that everyone has the ability to be a good math student even if they don't like the subject they can be just as good as a student who is looked at someone who was born with good math skills. Now the mindset is one factor to why people don't like math but also the environment students are taught in, some kids have teachers who don't focus most of their attention and time to kids who are a little slower at learning the subject and the   teacher will teach too fast for these students, sometimes student's have teachers who just don't really teach at all and will only follow teaching through the "math book" meaning they will not engage with students and not be attentive

I believe many people don't like math because of multiple factors, such as bad teachers, bad study habits, or a lack of understanding. Teachers have a large impact on whether a student has a good relationship with the subject or not. If math is taught in a stressful way or in a stressful environment, students can develop a poor relationship with the subject because they will relate it with stress. Bad study habits can also contribute to a distaste for math.
