The old optimistic proverbial phrase,  'when life gives you lemons, make lemonade', was first coined by Elbert Hubbard in 1915. It was to encourage optimism and a can-do attitude in the face of adversity or misfortune. Lemons suggest bitterness, while lemonade is a sweet drink. What Hubbard was saying was to make something unpleasant and bitter into something palatable and sweet to taste.

While it is an interesting and meaningful proverb, I prefer changing it to suit my personality. I believe that when life gives you lemons, make grape juice. That way, people will sit up and see what makes you so unique and different from everyone else.
